What is a showcase?

A Showcase is an event that enables a player to display or "show off" their talents, skills, and physical characteristics to college coaches and professional scouts.

What takes place at a showcase?
Typcially, a showcase first involves position players running the 60 yd. dash.  Once all position players have run, defensive skills begin with the outfielders throwing from right field to 3rd base and home plate.  Next, infielders position themselves at shortsop where they will field balls right at them, to their right in the hole, up the middle, and then slow rollers.  1st basemen are then doing a similiar workout throwing to 3rd base.  Catchers finish up the defensive skills portion of the showcase by throwing to 2nd base where evaluators time their release.  Pitchers are evaluated either in a bullpen setting or where they throw to hitters either in a batting practice setting or a scrimmage game(s).

What’s done with the information that’s recorded at the showcase?
College coaches and scouts use the information they've gathered to determine whether or not players are able to 1.) Play in their program collegiately or 2.) Play professional baseball.  Play Ball Right, Inc. will provide information such as 60 yd. dash times and velocities taken.  In addition, Play Ball Right, Inc. will provide this information to colleges as well as letters of recommendation/reference upon request.  Play Ball Right, Inc. however will not provide a comprehensive evaluation unless specifically requested for an additional fee of  $100.  Play Ball Right provides, organizes, and runs the event and coaches/scouts do their own individual evaluation.

How do coaches/scouts get in contact with players at the showcase?

Part of the fee each player pays to participate in the showcase goes toward putting together a showcase booklet that provides information on each player to the coaches and scouts.  Coaches in attendance pay a small fee for this informational packet.
