The United States Baseball Stars is an organization developed in the late ‘90s by Steve Merriman, Minor League Pitching Instructor for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Coach Merriman, developed the U.S Baseball Stars as a way to not only develop baseball players, but to also teach them about other country’s history and culture.
The United States Baseball Stars have played in Australia,Germany, France, The Czech Republic, Holland, and most recently – the Dominican Republic.
The U.S. Baseball Stars Coaching Staff conduct tryouts throughout the year and also attend various tournaments, and showcases trying to find talented players to fill out their travel rosters. Clark Jones, coach and recruiter, for the U.S. Baseball Stars and college roommate of Steve Merriman – works diligently throughout the year to find the “right mix”of talent to travel to the Dominican Republic. “I have traveled all over the world and have met people and seen sights I normally wouldn’t have seen because of the Stars. The Stars have opened up new horizons for me and because of this, I want to share this experience with young people so they too can experience first hand what it’s like to play baseball internationally. As the Head Coach at Elmhurst College, I was able to see a variety of players and recruited many to come to Elmhurst College." noted Coach Jones. Players making the team and traveling to the Dominican will be exposed to college coaches, professional scouts, and will play at the Arizona Diamondbacks Academy in the Dominican Republic. "I would recommend this to anyone interested in taking their game to the next level.” says Coach Jones.
